“ PREVENTION IS BETTER THAN CURE”
INITIATIVE
Less Concrete more Intelligence
August 2005
Dear friends,
In the strategic plan of infrastructure and transportation ( PEIT) issued by the Spanish Ministery of Developement the highway A 48 Vejer – Algeciras until now has been planed without an exact course.
This highway is an unnecessarily strong intervention into the last intact landscape and natural environment of Spanish coastline, where the economy has priority than environment and public health.
The construction of two parallel highways A381-A48 with a distance of 20 km between them, as well as the future development of golfcourses, hotels, urbanizations etc., without basic infrastructure such as sewagetreatment plant, is illogic.
A sewagetreatment plant has been demanded and supported by the EU for many years, it is still non existend. This is a clear violation of public health, for which the local government is responsible.
As a citizen of this planet I`m concerned with the aggressive distruction of this unique and beautiful landscape. With the knowledge we have, I support the initiative of “ less concrete more intelligence”.
I belief that the intelligence of the responsible Spanish institutions will lead them to demand their government to revise those plans which are contrary to the environmental direction of the European Union.
I demand that environmental plans of the EU, are carried out here and now, with consideration and responsibility and a clear and transparent information to avoid speculation.
The insecurity, the psychological pressure on the affected people should be avoided. There is a great harm for many people and an advantage only for a few.
Deforestation and soil erosion is a significant concern in all of Spain and another reason to do without concrete.
Every tree on this planet, either in the Amazon or Tarifa means air to breath for survival.
One can live without concrete but not without air and water
As we all sit in the same boat I hope for your support and positive vote.
